It’s something of an unspoken rule around the office that Southern Living editors must hold passionate and research-backed opinions on the merits of various fast-food biscuits. Hardee’s and Jack’s are frequently cited as dependable favorites, while many of us tend to steer clear of those from a certain otherwise-beloved chicken joint. All of this to say, I’ve eaten my fair share of fast-food breakfast over the years. And there’s one establishment that I feel rarely receives the attention its breakfast deserves: Wendy’s. If you’ve been sleeping on the little red-headed girl’s early-bird offerings, you shouldn’t be.
What To Order For Breakfast At Wendy’s
One of the perks of Wendy’s breakfast menu is the sheer variety of options, including everything from egg-and-cheese croissants and burritos to cinnamon pull-aparts and my husband’s personal favorite, the Breakfast Baconator, which is essentially their iconic stacker, but with a sausage patty where you’d normally find the beef. I typically order the Honey Buddy Chicken Biscuit, which is lathered in a maple honey butter that means I don’t have to choose between a sweet or savory breakfast; I get both in one bite.
But whatever you choose for your entree, make sure to pair it with a side of seasoned potatoes. These are the real stars of the restaurant’s morning menu. Where Wendy’s regular french fries are deliciously thin in the spirit of maintaining their trademark “hot and crispy” guarantee, breakfast’s seasoned potatoes are denser and more pillowy wedges. The fluffy texture and salty flavor match the home fries you’d find at any classic diner, but Wendy’s does you one better: You get to enjoy them from the comfort of your own home—assuming, of course, you don’t polish them off in your front seat first.
